A Fossil Trilobite, Cornuproetus sp, from the Devonian age Hamar L'aghdad Limestone deposits of Djbel Issoumour, Moroccan Sahara.
This excellent specimen measures approx 32mm (1.25 inches) long on a well worked limestone matrix block.
Generally very good preservation of the surface details on this fossil. The fossil does have a repair but this is almost always the case with trilobites from this formation as the limestone nodules are cracked open to allow the collectors to tell is there is a fossil inside.
Approx 350 million years old.
Trilobites were a group of Arthropods that lived in the oceans 520 to 250 million years ago. They were a highly successful group of animals and evolved into a huge variety of different shapes and sizes. Among the first animals on Earth to develop complex compound eyes. Highly prized and sought after by fossil collectors, Trilobites make an excellent subject or theme for any fossil collection.
